Application Requirements for Randy L Wendt Memorial Scholarship
- The Applicant's home of record must be of the 26 northernmost counties of the Texas Panhandle (see map below)
- The Victim and applicant cannot have been involved in the commission of a crime at the time of death.
- The Applicant must meet one of the following school requirements:
a. The Applicant must have graduated high school or earned a G.E.D.
b. The Applicant can be a current high school, college or trade school student.
c. The Applicant may have an acceptance letter stating that the Applicant has been accepted by the particular school.
- The Applicant must be related to the murdered victim, living with the victim at the time of the murder, and be financially dependent on the victim to pay for the Applicant’s education.
a. The Applicant must be a child, grandchild, sibling, parent or spouse of the murdered victim.
b. There can be multiple family members of the murdered victim applying and awarded scholarships at the same time.
- The Applicant must maintain a 2.5 © cumulative grade point average. As long as the 2.5 © cumulative grade point average has been met, they may request a continuance of their scholarship up to or including a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent certification from trade school.
- The Applicant must not have been previously convicted or served a term of deferred adjudication for any Class A or B Misdemeanor or Felony charges.
- The Applicant must not have a substance addiction. If the Applicant develops a substance addiction during the course of their education, the scholarship will be terminated.
- Scholarships will only be given to students for accredited colleges, universities or trade schools. Scholarships will NOT be paid to for-profit institutions.
Scholarship deadlines for submitting renewal applications and any supplemental paperwork are as follows:
Spring semesters: November 20th prior to the semester
Summer semesters: April 20th prior to the semester
Fall semester and winter intersession: July 20th prior to the semester
Applications received after the deadlines will not be considered. Only applications received through the website and mail will be considered, applications will not be accepted via email. |

Any funds awarded will be deposited at the school, not given to the Applicant.
